What we check
Knee pain can come from injury, ligament or cartilage irritation, arthritis, gout, infection, tendon problems or other causes. A clinic visit helps narrow down what is happening and what to do next.
New or recurring pain, swelling, tenderness, warmth, bruising or reduced movement.
Twisting injuries, sports strain, painful clicking, locking, giving way or difficulty walking.
Morning stiffness, pain with stairs, long-standing aches or flare-ups affecting daily activities.
Care pathway
The goal is to understand your symptoms, support pain control where suitable and decide whether you need observation, follow-up, imaging elsewhere, physiotherapy or specialist referral.
Doctor checks pain pattern, injury history, swelling, walking ability and knee movement.
Medication review, activity advice, wound care or support measures based on the clinical assessment.
Guidance for imaging, physiotherapy, orthopaedic review or urgent care if symptoms suggest higher risk.
Seek help sooner
Get urgent medical advice if knee pain is very severe, the knee is badly swollen or deformed, you cannot move it, or you cannot put weight on it.
Seek prompt review if the knee is hot, red or very painful with fever or feeling unwell, as infection needs timely assessment.
After major injury, sudden large swelling, numbness, repeated falls or a locked knee should be checked quickly.
